How to remove the white patina from glasses and make them shine again

Over time, glass glasses acquire a dull hue or whitish spots due to limescale in the water. The first option is to discard them, stop using them or throw them away, but it doesn’t have to be that way.

Before buying new glasses, try to remove the white patina and return them to their original shine with the economical and ecological methods that we suggest below.

Although the presence of limescale in the water we use to wash glasses is the first cause of the formation of this white patina, there are other factors that can cause it, such as incorrect use of the dishwasher or excessive use of dishwashing liquid.

1. Salt and lemon

Rub the inside of the glass with half a lemon. Apply a little force, but be careful not to break the glass. Little by little, the lemon will eliminate the limescale inside the glass.

Immediately afterwards, put a pinch of salt in the glass and spread it over the entire internal surface. Rub again with lemon to ensure that all the limescale comes off. Once finished, wash the glass with water and a little washing-up liquid and dry thoroughly.

2. Baking soda

Pour two generous tablespoons of baking soda, a tablespoon of salt, and hot water into the glass. Leave on for about 30 minutes.

This combination will remove the limescale deposited on the glass. Remember to wash the glass with detergent and water before drying and storing it.

3. White vinegar
